Many of us have fond memories of watching Christmas movies with our friends and families this time of year. Today’s beer takes its name from a line from the 2003 Jon Favreau movie Elf, Santa!! I Know Him! This seasonal saison is produced by Evil Genius Brewing Company, and is brewed with rosehips, chamomile, black currant, and dark Belgian candi syrup.

This beer immediately showcases the signature fermentation of a saison. Overall it’s very herbal but also very sweet and warm. There are dark smokey notes of date and molasses, which I can only assume comes from the dark Belgian candi syrup. Despite the complex flavor profile, this is a very cohesive and subtle beer. At 7.2% ABV, this beer packs in a lot of flavor without feeling heavy and lacks an acrid alcohol aftertaste.

Santa!! I Know Him! is certainly very different from the typical seasonal beer around Christmas time, but it’s still befitting of the holidays. It has a nice warming quality to it from the yeast and dark Belgian candi syrup. The combination of ingredients with this style of beer creates a flavor that feels very old world and timeless.
