It was fun to see the pendulum on this film swing back n forth. For the first three months of the year the excitement and buzz about the John Krasinski directed feature grew and swelled to the point by the time we got to opening night, I was pretty skeptical. After that opening weekend, everyone and their mom then decided that because it wasnt the most perfect thing ever that it was only flawed.

To my delight I was incredibly surprised. A quick 90 mins. I recall most of the crowd all being into it and trying to respect one another by observing silence. Except the jabroni sitting next to me with his phone of course. It told the story it was meant to tell without having to hit you on the head with explanations. And you appreciated all the characters on the screen.

Despite giving it only Four Blueberries, I left the theater that night on some “Believe the Hype” levels of enjoyment. I still stand by the rating. I never went back for repeat viewings after seeing this on my 56th Moviepass experience. I still havent attempted to watch this on any of the home platforms currently available right now. Thats because I still stand by my statement this needs to be seen on a big screen, in a dark-dark room, with perfect sound and ZERO distractions. And its almost impossible to get all four of those in the standard above board cinema today.

I do feel bad for everyone who saw this after that first weekend. This was definitely an event to go to.  It only made sense when people began poking holes in the story and the plot. Maybe they were overhyped.

It happens.

Im sorry to say and quite frankly Im disappointed that in 2020 we will be getting a sequel. Maybe this was the original writers intention all along. But I like to think this was a near perfect stand-alone story and doesnt require any follow up.
