Alvarado St Brewings Hot Pink Sherburps - Review by @Robyn_Seto

September is officially here and soon you’ll be seeing some darker beers appearing in my reviews. However, I just have to squeeze one more sour in before we say goodbye to summer.

Hot Pink Sherburps by Alvarado Street Brewing. This beer is part of their “Sherburps” series, which features sour ales inspired by sherbets of various flavors. The Hot Pink variation is brewed with guava, grapefruit, dragonfruit, and pomegranate.

This is a very very fresh and tart sour ale. You can smell each fruit on their own in the aroma, yet creates a wholly tropical experience. There is a citrus-like sourness and freshness to the flavor. It pours a delightful pink color, although I wouldn’t call it “hot” pink. It has a thickness in the body from the usage of fresh fruit. It leaves a sticky sweetness on the lips akin to Sweet Tart candies. It was a fun way to close out the season, and with that in mind you should try to drink this as soon as you can. Because fresh fruit is used in the brewing process, the yeast in the beer will continue to metabolize the sugars in the can. Letting this beer hang around too long could result in a curdled, chunky beer.

Overall, Hot Pink Sherburps delivers on the sherbet flavors and fluffy mouthfeel. I would recommend drinking this beer alone, as it’s quite sweet and fruity. There are a lot of strong flavors that may clash with any sort of food (except maybe more sherbet). It’s almost like a dessert on its own.

I’m pretty sick of the hot weather in the California central valley, but I’m certainly not sick of sour beers! There will still be more sours coming our way in the future, and maybe even some winter-themed sours around the holidays. Stay sticky, sour fans!

4/5 (Sher)Burps
