Top Reviewed Movie of 2018: Marvels Black Panther

This was originally going to be an article on one of the movies whose review I would change one way or the other. Marvels Black Panther got my highest review at Six out of Six Blueberries when it was the 36th Moviepass visit to the local cinemark theater. Thankfully this movie is easily accessible on most major platforms and aside from that final battle with the armored rhinoceros I think it still holds up at Six out of Six.

Where as I couldnt pronounce half or more of the cast and character names, thankfully these characters have been a bigger part of the national lexicon since its debut Presidents Day weekend in February. Everyone brings their A-Game to make this as Shakespearean as they can. Because of performances from Sterling K Brown and Daniel Kaluuya and of course Michael B Jordan, you get treated to whole heaps of tragedy that occur within this world. You see heroes making bad choices that exacerbate all these future problems and ultimately what the consequences of those are. You also see a full heroes arch whereas Chadwick Boseman’s character may not have caused any of these problems, but he is going to resolve them.

This movie went on to set multiple international records. Is still the highest Domestic earner for 2018 and sits only second to Avengers Infinity War internationally. It even was the first movie to be screened publicly after a 35 year cinematic prohibition in Saudi Arabia.

I dont pretend to understand the math of these ratings. I know Black Panther wasnt the best movie of 2018. I know it wasnt even my favorite movie of 2018. I saw Avengers Infinity War a whole lot more but even I know THAT isnt the best movie of 2018. But as a whole piece, from beginning to end, where I would now only cut 10 mins from the 2 hour 15 min run time, throw in a fantastic score from Ludwig Göransson and Ryan Coogler definitely delivered one of the best movies of the year and I dare you to show me a better mainstream corporate created blockbuster from the last 5 years.
