(Imagine me walking down a hallway)

Now that I got that out of my system, this is a good movie. Its sharp and feels fast paced. Its over 2 hours long and I did not feel any of it. The dialog is the cornerstone of this movie and holds it all together through Jessica Chastains narrative which is partially based on the book of the same name, originally released in 2014. By the time we get into the crux of the movie, Molly Blooms book has already been written and published with the narrative of our movie exploring how our subject ended up in a federal court eventually.

I didnt feel the directing was out of the ordinary as any other experienced directors showcase, however as a directorial debut, Sorkin got the job done and I have to wonder if he thought this was an easier process now that he had more control.

As stated above, Chaistains performance is solid and intense when it needs to be. She demonstrates how her character commands respect.

Idris Elba is going to get a best supporting nomination for this when the Oscar list drops. You definitely want more of his character interacting with Chastains character as they just have some really good back and forths. His impassioned speech deliveries are only getting better too. ...However if he had Sorkin writing all of his previous speeches…

Kevin Costner plays Molly Blooms father and is always a threat to stealing these movies he’s not even advertised in. Costners Father character ultimately is Mollys drive and her anchor. All of his teachings have gotten her this far in life but they are also holding her back due to angst. They break it down, trust me.

Special appearance by
Michael Cera who feels like a toned down version of his parody-self in This is the End playing the mysterious Player X. Based only on one throw-away line I get the feeling he’s supposed to be Shia LaBouf. I’m just speculating and honestly would be as surprised by who ever the character is supposed to be in real life.

As most of these true stories, things go from good to bad to desperate to amazing to rock bottom to conclusion. And it wouldn’t be a subject of this website if it didn’t involve (movie-style) italian gangsters, russian gangsters, wire tappings, and reference to addictive substances. As indicated at the top of this review. This is a good movie.
