Hobbs And Shaw: Review by @Kush_Hayes

Hobbs And Shaw: Review by @Kush_Hayes

Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was my most anticipated movie of the year and thus is my most disappointing movie of the year. Yes, anticipation can absolutely underwhelm the projects performance. Or there can also be too much of a good thing.

What I mean by that last sentence is theres a lot of awesome in this movie. You love The Rock. You love The Statham. Fast cars, big explosions, hot girls punching dudes in the face and people thrown out of windows, you love all that. Its all here. And it all goes too long.

Between Furious 7 and Fate of the Furious, a Dreamworks cartoon for Netflix was announced. Its still yet to see the light of day and who knows if its even a thing still, however our plot for Hobbs & Shaw, the Care BearCousins of the Fast and Furious Franchise, is right out of a cartoon. Thats doesnt have to be a bad thing what-so-ever. But it does have a limited shelf life.

Our story begins with MI:6 infiltrating a bad guys lair in London. As they have secured the compound, Idris Elba enters the scene. I feel like they tried to give him The Darth Vader Entrance and it comes off thin. Chaos and mass murder commence from there as Vanessa Kirby gets away from the scene of the crime but also with the virus that everyone in this movie is after. OH, she has also injected it into her bloodstream so theres a countdown.

We find The Rock and The Statham in their natural habitats, performing their daily routines and then beating up bad guys only to discover theyre working together. Of course we get the “I work alone” gimmick in stereo. We discover Vanessa Kirby is The Stathams sister and after another encounter with The Elba we find our band of heroes on the run. Through a series of objectives to complete fresh out of a video game, our team works together just enough before finally deciding to really work together. We travel all over most of Eastern Europe before we end up on the Island of Samoa.

Eventually, The Rock and The Statham unite to defeat The Elba as they cure The Kirby of the virus in her bloodstream. Again, you enjoy eveyones chemistry. You enjoy Rock and Statham shittalking back and forth. You enjoy the fights, the car chases, the action, the adventure as well as the two unnecessary cameos, but all of those meals in this multi course movie, could have been shaved down by 35 mins. At 2hrs and 15 minutes, this movie becomes tiresome. At 1hr40 mins this would have been a great summer movie.

Three out of Six Blueberries.

Rated PG-13 for prolonged sequences of action and violence, suggestive material and some strong language
